Here's a nice, shady, little hike in the Malibu Mountians. Drive up
PCH about 3 miles past Pepperdine University, and you'll find a little street on the right called Winding Way. Park in the lot and walk up the road past the mansions and the view of the ocean. At the end of the road, keep walking on the dirt trail, turn left at the fork, and continue down about 30 minutes to a pool and a trickle of a waterfall. It's an easy hike and well worth it. I usually drive there, but I also took Metro Bus 454 there once. It's a long bus ride from Santa Monica, at least one hour, but it's okay with friends; you'll have to tell the bus driver where to let you off. On the way back you have to cross PCH. Be carfeul! Then wave down the bus to go back to Santa Monica.
